YOUTH CENTRE REBUILD PROJECT RECEIVES
Landfill Communities Fund FUNDING
All Saints Centre Building Project
All Saints Church in Eaglescliffe, Stockton-on-Tees has recently
been awarded £13,600 by Enventure through the Tioxide
Landfill Communities Fund.
The mammoth £515,000 project involves removing the outdated
wooden 2-storey Youth Centre building and linking corridor, constructed
in the 1960s, and replacing them with a brand new single storey
brick structure that will blend in with the main church and provide
additional rooms and storage space.
The new building will provide improved facilities for the current
toddler and playgroup that frequently make use of the facility,
including a new main hall, kitchen, toilets and 4 store rooms.
Disabled access will also be accommodated through the provision
of access ramps and widened doorways.
The new centre will also provide a further 2 meeting rooms for
church and parish council meetings and it is anticipated that
the additional rooms will attract a wider range of community
groups to make use of the new facilities. The new main hall will
also be available to hire for private functions such as wedding
receptions.
Planning was approved back in March and construction commenced
earlier this month. Completion is scheduled for December this
year.
Suzanne Hudson, Community Grants Manager from Enventure said:
'The new building will expand the existing amenity by providing
a meeting place and community centre to accommodate and facilitate
a wider range of community activities. The project will benefit
the entire community and will encourage people to become more
socially active, as well as helping to bridge the gap between
church groups and other community members'.
David Bunford, member of the church's finance team, said:
" The vicar of the All Saints Church Rev Alan Farish, offers
his thanks to Enventure and Tioxide for their wonderful generosity
in helping to fund this new church centre project, which will
provide a modern amenity focused on worship and fellowship, building
strong community links across all age groups for many years to
come".
Note to Editors:
Enventure has supported over 500 projects and distributed more
than £15 million in Landfill Tax Credits.
The Landfill Communities Fund was introduced with the landfill
tax in October 1996 and enables landfill site operators to donate
up to 6.5% of their landfill tax liability to environmental projects
in return for a 90% tax credit. These projects should conform
to one of six objects set for the LCF.
The LCF was designed to help mitigate the effects of landfill
upon local communities. It encourages partnerships between landfill
operators, their local communities and the voluntary public sectors.
Environmental
Bodies (EBs ) are organisations that have registered with ENTRUST
in order to receive landfill tax money from landfill
operators (Los) or other EBS.
