71 Year Old Bowls Club to be Saved by £50,280 GrantBarnetby Bowls Club which has been enjoyed by the local community for 71 years was recently under threat due to changes with their leasing terms and conditions. The club has recently been granted £50,280 in a bid to save the club, funded by Enventure through the Singleton Birch Landfill Communities Fund. The project was originally awarded a £25,280 Enventure grant towards the construction of a new pavilion at their original site, but changes to their lease have forced the club to relocate, thus incurring additional costs. The clubs members have recently had to travel to Kirmington for all their home matches due to the closure of their green and are delighted to receive the grant. Joyce Brumpton, the clubs secretary said “It will put back into the village an amenity which has been there for the past 71 years and has been sadly missed”. The club is currently appealing
to other funding contributors to fund the cost of providing
security
fencing for whilst the new green is being constructed.
Providing this funding can be secured, the new
green and pavilion will be situated at the Barnetby playing
fields in Silver Street and is hoped to be ready
to open to the public in time for the new season
in 2005. |
