Project: March Riverside Regeneration

Funding Allocated: £22,500

The Riverbank in March, Cambridgeshire, between Town Bridge and MarylEBone Bridge has been in need of improvements. The project involved general improvements to the riverside banks, including cutting back undergrowth. Moorings and angler's platforms have been restored to their former glory.

The main bulk of work had been to restore the moorings. The old moorings were made of wood and were deemed as being unsafe. These were replaced with concrete moorings that cost a total of £30,000. The whole project has cost in the region of £70,000 and our funding contributed towards the whole project.

The river was very overgrown due to the banks being covered with large trees, nettles, shrubs and litter. This whole area has been cut back and has now opened up the whole area to give splendid views of the river.

Also along the riverside a lot of work has taken place on the improvement of pump room for boats to deposit their waste. They also have plans to put in 3 murals in three bricked archways along the river.

They have also spent a lot of work restoring the angler’s platforms and also excavated the bank so that they could put in a turning point for the boats to turn round.

The walkways were very well kept and new benches have been put in for people to sit down and enjoy the views.
